Just general information today, just to catch up and tell you about a few thoughts from my art world.

First, I want to ask, is it cold where you are?  It’s really cold here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains!  Big frost twice this week.

Next, I’ll tell you about the watercolor workshop that I taught last week in Rochelle, GA, at the Dirt Road Gallery.  The subject was peaches and we all learned about giving the peaches dimension and using glazes.  This was a fun, fun class.

Each workshop a student is picking the subject for the next workshop.  Next time, it’s flowers, this should be interesting, seeing as how it is a departure and hopefully better way for each student to be  able to paint the flower they want to paint.  I’m really looking forward to this!

Also, at each workshop, tickets are drawn to see who will win 20% off the price of the next workshop. Judy is the lucky recipient for the January, 2010 workshop.

While we were painting, Carolyn Stephens, owner of the Dirt Road Gallery (http://dirtroadgallery.com/ talked to us about the importance of how we sign our names on paintings.

The suggestion is to sign at the bottom of either corner, select a name that you can sign with for the rest of your painting career and to leave enough room at the bottom of the painting, so the frame or mats won’t cover it up. One additional thought about this is to sign with a color that doesn’t make your name  the first thing a collector sees.

Have you noticed how busy everyone seems to be in the fall?  As an artist there are festivals and exhibitions to attend as well as preparing for these events.

There is something I want to say to you, especially if you are a beginning artist, and that is that I want to encourage you to start now to plan to participate in an upcoming exhibit.  There is a saying that goes like this…”If I wait til all the traffic lights are green before I start to Atlanta, then I’ll never go”.  So if you wait until your work is perfect, you’ll never exhibit.

Hope you’ve enjoyed my chat today.  If you did, let me know.  I look forward to hearing from you!

Just click on the “contact” button at the top and ask your questions and make your comments. I’ll get back with you, usually within 24 hours.

Also, soon there will be a new product to sign up for, at no cost to you.  It’s a secret until I get it posted, so watch the postings here.

Until our next blogging time – Remember to “Honor Your Creative Spirit.”
