Deciding to keep the colors on your palette limited to just a few will give a painting close color harmony.
New students sometimes feel that they need lots of tubes of paint and if they don’t actually put them on their palette, they bring them to class or if painting on their own, keep them nearby.
When the student has progressed and starts learning the true hue of each color it is easier to know how to mix secondary and tertiary colors from primary colors.
If you wish to paint with a limited palette consider red, yellow, blue, white and black. From time to time you will need to add additional colors for a particular painting. An example is Cerulean Blue, many paintings will benefit from the addition of this color. Certain floral colors may also be easier to achieve if tube colors are used.
