Charting paint colors is a good idea! How will you know how each color goes together if you don’t know what color it first is?
If we just take the red, yellow and blue colors, white and black and chart them, we will learn to make many other colors before we are painting on the canvas.
Take a piece of canvas, staple to a sturdy board, with 1/8th inch drafting tape make a grid of one inch squares.
Across the top and down the left side designate a space for each color.
1) paint red in the first block both down and across
2) paint yellow in the second block both down and across
3) paint blue in the third block both down and across
4) paint white in the fourth block both down and across
5) paint black in the fifth block both down and across
Next mix red and yellow and paint in the red and yellow lines. Continue until each color has been mixed together and with the white and black.
If you are studying watercolor, then grid on watercolor paper.
Now you are knowledgeable about the colors you are using, enabling you to make better decisions when you are painting on your canvas.
Cordially,
