For some it seems they have found the most incredible artistic passion for their work. No matter what show they enter, they have lots of lookers and buyers. People flock around their booth and we just can’t understand why.

Did you ever think that this artist may display the artistic passion they feel as they paint and when they are talking about their work?

If you want to succeed in life as an artist, you must find your incredible artistic passion. Here are 5 suggestions.

1. Develop your own direction!
Spend some time investigating the route you want to take. Get to know yourself and define your dreams.

2. Follow the path that passion leads you down!
The more you follow this path, the more your dreams will be achieved.

3. Put action with your artistic dreams!
Begin to enter exhibits and festivals. Feel the excitement of the show and listen to people that you talk with, they will honestly say what they are thinking of your work. Does that mean that they will become a collector? Not necessarily, the point here is that you are putting legs on your dreams.

4. Realize that your life is created by your own actions!
You are living your life right now! This is the only one you’ve been given. Even if failures of artistic endeavors have brought you to this point, start today to use the options open to you, and make a life of passion and purpose as you pursue your artistic interest.

5. Learn to demonstrate your purpose by living a passionate life!
Do you tell yourself that your dreams are better or worse than other’s? Just know that you must come full circle and be true to your artistic self.

Thus creating a passion for your artistic dreams that others see and honor.

In the right corner above there is an MP3, that is my gift to you, that explains more of where and what I see as creativity.

One of the most important activities we can participate in is that of setting goals.
At the end of the MP3 you will be invited to go to http://ArtistsGoalWheel.com where you will learn from a successful artist, the value of setting goals.

Remember to “Honor Your Creative Spirit!”

This is Day 7 of the 7 Day BlogChallenge with Dr. Jeanette Cates. I am Ellene Breedlove Davis.

Creativity is the ability to go beyond the traditional ideas and create new ways to express yourself.

Find new ideas or methods to accomplish your expression of creativity freely.

At the top of your priority list should be to learn new ways of interpretation, to try something original and use your imagination in a new way.

This exercise will help to free your mind, and aid in your creative thinking.

You will be alone, in your comfortable chair, have all the materials needed to bring your project to life. Start to focus your mind and create a solution to the problems you are facing.

In my studio, I have a small blue chair that just calls me to create. Most of the time, I get my sketch book or journal, a favorite pen and just put the pen to paper. The ideas start to flow as soon as I relax, as my creative imagination starts to write or sketch.

While you’re in this mode, brainstorm, write down all ideas, leave no uncensored thoughts out.

This is not a time for self-criticism. Write for a short while then break, go out of the room if it helps and clear your mind.

This is an important activity that is beneficial each day. During this activity, ask yourself – what if, why and how.

Keep your creative mind in motion at all times. In fact, there are some people that are so creative that they can’t sleep, I suggest keeping a pen and paper nearby and jotting down ideas that come at this time.

If you are feeling that you are inadequate in some part of your creative spirit, write down all the knowledge you’re learned in the last six months. You will learn from this that you are a creative person. We all experience these emotions from time to time.

Ellene

Before I go, I invite you to go to the top right corner of this blog, and enter your name and e-mail to receive a brand new MP3, and listen as I give you more information that will help with the flow of your creativity. Read it through to the end, take action and download the e book there. Learn how to meet your artist goals with information from the author “Tara Reed”, also an artist. This book is in my library and a much used reference. I am an affiliate for this book, “The Artists Goal Wheel”, will receive compensation when you buy. I only recommend information that I have used and I give this book my highest recommendation.

This is Day 6 of the 7 Day Blog Challenge with Dr. Jeanette Cates. I am Ellene Breedlove Davis

Learning to honor your creative spirit is a prerequisite to being an artist.

As a child did you doodle, draw or make objects from sticks, pipe cleaners or clay?

Or, you may have been like I was. I was the oldest of 7 children, we lived on a farm and there just wasn’t much time to do these things. Our school was a very small country school so there wasn’t much mention of art. If we got it, we got it from some other student that could draw, etc.

When I was 39, my 8 year old son, wanted to learn to draw race cars. Since there was a new art store in our hometown we went down and enrolled him. We still lived in the country and I waited until his class was over. During this waiting period, I watched his cute as a button art teacher make her brush sing. I had always been a craft type person and I wanted what she had.

Long story short, I enrolled in an oil painting class with her. The first class, she encouraged me to learn to doodle and to wear jeans to class.

That class was 30+ years ago, and I still see her, making her brush sing with that left hand. From my first teacher, I learned that I was creative, and could paint original oil paintings.

My teacher was passionate about all things art and passed that on to her students. She instilled in me the love of art and I have never left it. The passion is still with me, even tho it has been many years since I learned to paint.

I want to encourage to honor your creative spirit by following your passion. You may have chosen another skill, other than painting, but whatever your choice of creativity, practice it, experiment and use it to the best of your ability to bring joy to others.

Remember that great things are done when the creative instinct of an artist is recognized and, the artist takes the action to bring that art into being.

“Honor Your Creative Spirit!”

Ellene

PS To the right at the top of the page there is a picture that tells you that there is an MP3 there. I invite you to listen all the way through, implement the suggestions included and learn to be all that you can be as an artist.

This is day 5 of the 7Day Blog Challenge with Dr. Jeanette Cates. I’m Ellene Breedlove Davis

What does your social persona say about you? Do you have the reputation that you are a nice person to work with? Or, is your reputation one that says you are a difficult artist to work with? The way you present your self in every situation can mean the difference in being successful or unsuccessful.

You don’t have to have everyone fall totally in love with you or your creations, but it is important to have your viewers and other artists respect you.

Here are some suggestions to remind you that manners are important!

1. You need to be friendly, speak to and introduce yourself to others. Such as at an exhibit or art festival, be friendly to those participating with you. You never know when you begin a conversation how you may be able to help someone. You may have more art festival experience than this person and can pass along important suggestions. This artist won’t forget you!
2. When another artist or promoter asks for help, be willing to pitch in. If you are unable to lend a hand, say so in a polite way, telling them why you won’t be able to assist them.
3. Always be honest, if someone asks you what medium you used to paint this picture, tell them. All artists are interested in where you buy your frames, where do you buy your paint? How is that art supply company to work with, are they helpful on the phone? Is your order shipped in a timely manner? Is it in good shape when it arrives at your studio?
4. Remember that others may not have a great social persona, maybe they left a bad situation at home, or some of their product was broken when they arrived at the festival. You just never know why someone is behaving the way they are. So, be careful that your conversation doesn’t offend.
5. Look everyone in the eye! To me this states that I am friendly, confident and ready to have a good show.

Honor Your Creative Spirit!

This is June 23rd and the fourth day of the 7 Day Blog Challenge with Jeanette Cates, this is Ellene Breedlove Davis

Tonight, I listened to an awesome teleseminar on the 6th Chapter of Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich.”

I’ve studied this book before but somehow this chapter was like hearing it for the first time.

For an artist, these questions are critical to your success!!

When we were children, we delighted to color inside the lines, because it was prettier, when we colored outside the lines we were considered careless and haphazard and told to be careful to color inside the lines. Leaving little room for our creative imagination.

Now that we are grown up, do we color inside the lines, still using the synthetic imagination? Are you more comfortable painting a certain way, because everyone else is doing it this way?

In the book, Hill states “The creative imagination works automatically. This faculty functions only when the conscious mind is working at an exceedingly rapid rate, as for example, when the conscious mind is stimulated through the emotion of a strong desire.”

He also states “The creative faculty becomes more alert in proportion to its development through use.”

As an artist, writer, teacher or many other occupations, I encourage you to determine to overcome the synthetic imagination and rev up your creative imagination.

This is June 21st and the 2nd day of the 7 Day Blog Challenge with Jeanette Cates, this is Ellene Breedlove Davis.

Last weekend some of my students suggested that we paint trees in our next workshop. This got me to thinking about how to teach a student to paint a tree.

What do I tell them? When you once paint a tree, you will never look at trees the same way again? When there’s a bigillion leaves on trees in summer, how do you paint folliage so that your viewer is familiar with your impression?

There are a number of ways to approach this subject – Wet-in-Wet, scumbling, and drybrush details. Another way is to use a sponge, this give lots of variety once the sponge is damp, this technique is good for painting loose leaves on trees.

Have you tried to spatter through a hand torn stencil or an irrugular cut piece of paper?

I think my old stencil brushes make good spattering brushes, the bristles are just resilient enough to make good spatter.

Remember you are painting many many leaves, there is no way to paint each one, so experiment. See which stencil or brush or sponge will give the effects you were looking for.

I would be honored if you would download your short report to the right. I welcome your questions and comments

Today is June 20th, and the first day of a Mini 7 Day Blog Challenge with Jeanette Cates. As you know I’m Ellene Breedlove Davis.

The blog today will give valuable information that will dispell any fear you have of being a competent pencil artist.

It seems that some feel that this is hard or even unfeasible. Do you feel that way?

What your feelings are is not the issue, the issue is that with pencil drawing any person who is enthusiastic and wants to learn and discover, can begin to learn the necessary skills. Beginning the groundwork is the most important factor.

Pencil drawing should be amusing and pleasurable and if you remember why you are attempting to learn the procedure, then you are creating the attitude it takes to learn this skill.

Usually we begin learning to draw by holding the pencil as we were taught to in elementary school. Many times we are not even conscious of how we hold the pencil.

But, there is a proper way to hold the pencil when drawing. Just remember there is a big difference in writing and drawing. Problems such as hatched lines and unsteadiness come from holding the pencil the wrong way to draw.

To write, I hold the pencil between my thumb, forefinger and middle finger, just as I was taught by Miss Julie in first grade. To draw and to shade I hold the pencil between the thumb and middle finger, with the index finger on top, so that I can draw or shade with more pressure. Think about the technique you use for these activities and try to improve them.

Also, try to draw with your whole arm, not just your hand and wrist. You’ll soon see the difference because you drawings will be much looser.

Keep on practicing and contact me if there are artsy questions you need an answer for!

Please take the time to download “Choosing To Be An Artist For A Lifetime.” Just enter your name and email and it will be in your in box in just a few minutes.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 5, 2010
The Blackshear Place Library, Oakwood, GA is hosting a solo exhibit by Ellene Breedlove Davis. On display are original oils and watercolors. Also included are several giclees of original paintings.

Ellene’s work includes scenes from her memory, as a child, and, she also paints from the present, painting many beautiful scenes she finds as she travels. Ellene paints primarily in watercolor. She creates her paintings from life, photos, her imagination and memory. Her work is widely collected and she is in demand as an exhibitor and teacher throughout the South. From her Valle of Yellow Creek Art Studio, located in North Hall County, GA she teaches watercolor and drawing workshops.

Davis states that her studio is her home base, not only does she produce her art and teach there. In 2007, she installed her art website, http://EllleneBreedloveDavis.com and promotes her paintings, and local/regional workshops there. “The Landscape Artist Speaks,” is aired on Blog Talk Radio, on Wednesdays at 10am, and also originates from her studio. In this much listened to broadcast, she teaches fine art fundamentals and interviews well known artists.

Ellene states that “classes and workshops are conducted with the student in mind.” Each student receives individual guidance and encouragement. Here’s what Ruth said of her workshop at the Blackshear Place Library:

“When I left that Saturday workshop, my heart was singing! So, thank you for the gift you give when you so graciously share your knowledge and talents with the rest of us.”

For more information, please call 678-528-7099 or email at art@ElleneBreedloveDavis.com,
